Hello Region 20 members,
Let’s get started with a recap from November’s meetings. Genesee had 50 members including
1 new member: Don Martin. Shiawassee had 42 attendees including new members: John (and his wife) Langworth, Linn Turshy
and guests: Alicen Gardner, Ted Klatt. On to the Awareness
Report…..
The Awareness Team is continuing to teach
the young adults of the community to “LOOK TWICE, SAFE A LIFE. They are doing an awesome job. The team is on a record pace with plans of surpassing last year’s numbers. As they continue to schedule classes within the Genesee and Shiawassee
Counties, they ask for your help identifying and providing contact information
with schools or private driving institutions that aren’t participating in the program.
MANY THANKS TO JESSICA BRUCE daughter of Jo Bruce who was able to get the Awareness Team into Carmen Ainsworth Schools. We are very proud of her accomplishments. As
always continue to show the Awareness Team that you appreciate their efforts to keep motorcyclists safe as they ride on the
highways in mid-Michigan. On to the Legislative Report…..
Unfortunately there is no “new news”
on the “Ride with a Choice” legislative bill. Any recent updates
you will find in the State LO’s section in the front of this mag. Legislative days are scheduled for the month of December. They are as follows: Dec. 3rd
and Dec 9th -9am on the 4th floor of the Capital in Lansing.
I also think that at this time
it is befitting to mention that Abate isn’t just promoting “Ride with a Choice”. Abate is actively promoting other legislation aimed at protecting our rights as individuals. Not to mention,
Rider Safety Classes and Motorcycle Awareness. Check out the state’s
website, which you can link off of Region 20’s in the Legislative section in the front of this mag. Attend the Legislative
Days if able. This is a great opportunity to meet your legislatures....….On to the Products Report.
We have a few individuals that especially need
our prayers and warm thoughts. Unfortunately, Bill and Michelle Smith lost her brother recently. Steve and Roz’s son had a house fire which destroyed all of their belongings.
Zipper is scheduled for “neck” surgery on 11-25 and Randy is scheduled for “knee” surgery on 11-17. Please remember these individuals in your prayers. The Product/Cares and Concerns
Officers are starting to receive warmer riding gear. They have some awesome items
and have ORDERED ADDITIONAL ITEMS which will be available at your area meetings. They
are doing a great job. Make sure you acknowledge them for their effort. Several
birthdays and anniversaries were mentioned at the Genesee and Shiawassee meetings, too numerous
to mention. … So HAPPY BIRTHDAY/ANNIVERSARY TO ALL…. On to
the RC Report.
Nomination for Officer positions were held during November(s)
meeting in Genesee and Shiawassee. The 2008
Officer(s) were nominated for 2009. All existing 2008 officers ran unopposed. Your 2009 Region 20 elected officers are
as follows”
Regional Coordinator- Randy Wilson, Treasurer- Robin Goyette, Legislative Officer (G)
Chuck Beals and (S) Mark Berger, Secretary (G) Georgia Wilson and (S) Don Bilger. The officers would like to thank
you for your continued support and look forward to another “Great” year.
Many thanks to the volunteers who helped at
the Birch Run Swap meet. The coordinators of the Swap Meet expressed appreciation to the individuals
who helped. As always Thanks for Giving a Shit Region 20.
Iron Butt mileage needs to be given to Randy this month (November). This year Region 20 is trying something
a little different. The Iron Butt Contest will be a traveling plaque. Randy will take the top four competitors in Genesee
and Shiawassee, add their mileage together. The winner team will be presented with their plaque at the Christmas Party on 12-6-08 at Kimberly’s Pub. Hopefully this will promote more individuals to become involved in the contest.
As mentioned, Region 20 will be hosting
our Annual Christmas Party on December 6th at Kimberly’s Pub.
Dinner will be at 7pm. Santa will be arriving in the evening.
It is necessary that all attendees r.s.v.p. In addition, we will need
the names, ages of any “boy or girl” 14 years of age and younger. They
will be presented with a gift from Region 20 a.k.a. Santa. Members of Region
20 are free. Guests will be charged $5.00.
A passing dish would be appreciated.
On to our Member (s) of the Month……Genesee’s
Member of Month is -Jerry Davidson and Shiawassee would like to announce that Rich Alderman is their Member of the Month. Both of these individuals are actively participate in promoting Region activities. Thank you both for continuing to strive to make Region 20 a success and of course
“Thanks for Giving a Shit!!!!You Rock!!!
During November meetings Region 20 members also
voted on “Member of the Year”. The selected member will receive
their plaque at the Christmas Party and have their room paid for at the State Seminar.
I am not going to let the “cat out of the bag” as of yet. However,
I will say “as usual the members have done an awesome job selecting our Member of the Year”.
The State Seminar is just around the corner. The event will be held on January 9th, 10th and 11th 2009. If you are planning on attending the seminar
and want a room, don’t hesitate. Rooms are becoming scarce. Book it now. The seminar is a great opportunity to attend workshops on various topics. Dinner tickets are available. Check out the schedule in the front of this mag. The seminar is also an awesome
time to meet and greet fellow Abate members. Yes it’s a great party. However, more important it’s a fantastic time to learn. Don’t forget on Sunday you have the opportunity to elect the state board members. Look forward to seeing you there. Guaranteed not to be boring!!!!!
Well it’s just about time to say goodbye. As always, if you haven’t attended a meeting lately, please do..we have two
meetings a month; one in Genesee the 1st Tuesday of the month at Kimberly’s Pub and one the Sunday following
the 1st Tuesday of the month in Shiawassee at the Hickory
Lounge.
If
you can’t do to personal obligations, we understand..we know you are here in spirit….Check out our website
