Hello Region 20 members.  Spring is just around the corner and Abate Region 20 members and friends are planning for a busy 2009.  Let’s not delay and get started with the news.

At March’s meeting in Genesee 42 members attended; (2) new members:  Mike Switawski and Dave Zietz; (1) guest: Rick Blackburn.  Shiawassee had 44 attendees, including (2) new members: John Delong and (7) guests: Lawrence Morrow, Jason James, Holly Kuchar, Lisa Vail, Ross Converse, Jessica and Matt Wilson.  Thank for giving a shit new members and guests.

On to the Awareness Report;

The Awareness Team is working hard to make this a safe riding season for all motorcyclists.  They have taught over 100 students this year to LOOK TWICE SAVE A LIFE.  You guys/gals are awesome.  As in previous years the team is planning for their Annual Awareness Party and Annual Awareness Ride.  The flyers are in this mag.  If you are interesting in helping out, please contact one of the Awareness Team members.  They would appreciate any help you can provide.

On to the Legislative Report;

Legislative Days have been set for the spring of 2009.  They are as follows:  April 15 and May 13.  Everyone should plan to attend the Annual Freedom Rally on June 3rd.  I will provide more information about our meeting sites in next month’s edition.   Continue to contact your area legislators, and express you r request that they support our Freedom of Choice bill.  Vote for a Choice not a Mandate. Region 20 would like to acknowledge Marty who mailed out over 40 letters to area legislators.  Thanks for giving a shit Marty. For any additional legislative news, please pay close attention to our State LO Report in the front of the Michigan Rider.

On to the RC Report;

Region 20 is proud to announce that for (G) Robin “Bubbles” Goyette is the member of the month and for (S) Mark “The Bus” Berger is Region 20’s member of the month.  Both of these individuals work hard to help Region 20’s efforts.  Thank you both. April’s Region 20 meeting will be combined.  Shiawassee will join Genesee on the 1st Tuesday on the month at Kimberly’s Pub at 7pm.  This is because the scheduled meeting falls on the Easter holiday. Specific address information is in the front of this magazine.  Please plan on attending.  It is great to have both areas together.  The Tri-City Swap meet will be held on April 19th at the Birch Run Expo Center and Region 20 will be providing security.  Terry “Boo Boo” Goyette will be in charge.  If you’re able to sign up as an extra, please contact Terry.  There were (3) motions that passed in Genesee and Shiawassee.  They are as follows: 300.00 has been approved to help with supporting the Awareness Party (purchasing food etc); 2000.00 was approved for our annual Awareness Billboard, which will be placed on I-75 (LOOK TWICE SAVE A LIFE); 250.00 was approved for Region 20 to be a sponsor of Bikes on the Bricks, this includes our logo on the t-shirts and a vendor both; 50/50 revenue will be donated to the PAC fund for the remainder of 2009.

State Raffle tickets and Oil City-State Seminar tickets are available, see Region 20 members Mac or Holly (soon to be) McKrakken.

As spring draws near, the rumbling of motorcyclists will be here soon.  Abate Region 20’s 9th Annual Bikin for Burns is scheduled for May 9th, pre-registration party May 8th.  Our flyer is posted in the mag.  The committee has high aspirations that this will be the best ever.  If you can help out the day of the event, please contact any of the officers.  Any help will be appreciated. Contributions from the ride will benefit, Burns Twp., Durand and Davison Fire Departments.  Region 20 and 103.9 The Fox will be promoting the event.  This year the Bikin for Burns committee has chose to have a Grand Marshall.  The B4B committee has chosen Jeff Wade and our first marshal for the event.  Jeff has been involved with Bikin for Burns since the first year.  We are proud to have Jeff as the Grand Marshall for the 9th Annual Bikin for Burns.  We look forward to everyone attending the event.  It is planning to be a great one.

Well it’s just about time to say goodbye…As always, if you haven’t attended a meeting lately, please do. We host two meetings a month; one in Genesee the 1st Tuesday of the month at Kimberly’s Pub and one the Sunday following the 1st Tuesday of the month in Shiawassee at the Hickory Lounge.  If you can’t do to personal obligations, we understand. We know you are here in spirit…. Check out our website at: http://www.abatemichregion20.com
