L.O Report December 2017
HB5013 –
Auto Insurance Reform. Thank you to Dondi for his informative
article about HB5013 in the November
Rider. Thankfully, this bill did not
pass. It was discovered that this bill was part of a package with other bills. Because of its size and importance, the bill was taken out of the package and voted
on separately.
I hope members
also contacted their representative regarding this bill. Be sure to thank those who voted against this bill and educate those
who voted for it.

MRF News:
HR735 requires
manufacturers to disclose to consumers the presence of date recorders (Black Boxes) on vehicles. This bill would require manufactures to give the option to turn on or off these recorders.
Manufacturers
could use information for warrantee work. Boxes could become proprietary, meaning they repair it and own information in it,
such as driving habits. They could also be used against drivers by law enforcement and insurance companies in the case of
an accident.
Self-driving vehicles. U of M will soon start trials for driverless taxis. Top speed
will be 55 mph. Don’t quote me
on this part, but the testing could be started in Ann Arbor.
