April Newsletter - ABATE Region 20

Genesee and Shiawasee Counties

Legislative Officers-Marte Merrell and Mark Berger

Well, the weather has finally changed for the better (well at least for 5 minutes).  Hello Region 20, friends, family and fellow ABATE Members.  We had 3 new members this month at our joint meeting:  Ken Slater, Earl Lord and Leo Clayton.  There was 54 in attendance. Thanks for giving a shit!!!

Members of the month:  For Genesee County:  Mac McCracken-Security and many other hats!!  Member of the month for Shiawasee County was Zip, the Zipper Behrendt!!  You guys rock!!

Secretary and Treasurer Reports were read and accepted.

Member of the Year Mike Poage received an plaque from Shriner Bob for Motorcycle awareness, Mike thanked the Awareness Team.  As of last month the team taught 208 students and are now up to 549—1/4 of the way to the 2,000 student goal!!!  Keep up the great work TEAM!!  Saturday, April 10, 2010 is Region 20’s Awareness Party and we had good attendance!!! We almost raised enough money but was just short of our goal.  However and anonymous person donated the rest of the money.  Thanks for giving a shit!!!  We now have our Awareness Billboard!!  Randy, Mike and CB all got soaked with water balloons!!  Little Chase as well got drenched, and as for Chase, someday he wants to be R.C., well, he is off to a good start!!  Just because the party went over well, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t attend our free event-the Awareness Ride on Saturday, April 24, 2010!!  We will have to follow all traffic laws.  Our intent is to get people’s attention so we will be stopping at a parking lot to wave our signs a t passers by and explain what we are all about.  Ride will end at Rocky’s and begin at Top End Cycle!!  Once again, anyone wanting an Awareness sign, 4 foot by 8 foot, call Mike.  Wanna have fun, Wanna stress how important awareness is????  Call Mike (Kritter) 810-423-8711, and become a Safety Awareness instructor!!!

Chief Road Captain, no report at this meeting.

Chief Area Coordinator for Genesee County, Gerri Lynne (Mama Bear) is looking for people to sign up for the swap meet at Perani’s on April 11th as well as sign up for Biking for Burns!!  Anyone who needs flyers, please see Mama Bear!!  Margaret received her AC patch as well as Lisa Beals!!  Thanks for giving a shit.

Legislative Officer for Genesee County, Marte and Shiawasee’s Bus gave a combined report.  And so much for Woodrow Stanley showing up, his loss!!  Exciting the 4747 helmet bill has passed the house, with 2 stipulations.  You must be 21 and over and have a $20,000 personal liability per rider.  It was put to the senate, then they went on vacation, go figure.  Hoping Granholm will sign it or have enough people for the veto override.  Woodrow voted no.  Check with your L.O.s on who we should be supporting, because it may not be who you think it is.  All of the representatives have to have their laptops with them at all times, so they will be receiving emails.  They are 50-60 people coming up for elections and we have to be careful who we vote for.  Once again we want to help them if they help us and vice versa.  L.O., Mark-Bus (517-455-1611), bergermark48@yahoo.com, give him a shout if you need information.

As for cares and concerns and products this month was combined with Cupcake from Shiawasee and Amanda from Genesee.  We have new logo and cute colors, Amanda had layaway!!  No Blue Light Specials, yet!!  Cupcake is breaking in Amanda for her new roles!  Thanks for giving a shit Amanda!!!  We have Biking for Burns stuff: do-rags, T-shirts, Tank Tops, and MORE!!!  See the girls for your items.  All kinds of B-Days—so Happy B-Day to you all!!!  Bus and Cupcake and Darlene and Wess---Happy Anniversary!!

Mack is BROKE just to let you know, he spent all his money at the Gary Slawter benefit!! Thanks for giving a shit!! Mac and Stephen need help with security at Biking for Burns, so please see them for sign up!!

The Gary Slawter Benefit on March 6th at Kimberly’s Pub was a huge success!! Bruce (thanks for giving a shit) provided most of the food.  Lots of other ABATE members from other regions showed up!!  Our fearless leader: Randy played auctioneer and made sure Mac and Zip visited the nearest ATM Machine!!  The bake sale made everyone bounce off the walls---Gotta love all the sugar!!  All had a “Hell of A Time” –said Emie!!  Thanx to all that participated—Thanks for Giving a Shit!!  Some of the proceeds went to purchasing a new leather jacket for Gary!!  Emie was glad to see he turned down the pink one that Randy wanted him to get.

Co-R.C.- Mike (Kritter) this month is filling in for R.C.-Randy.  Biking for Burns (B4B) paperwork is in order.  Make sure to sign up for a shift or two!!  50/50 Margaret needs a backseat to ride in the event.
