Hello Region 20 members, family and friends.

Special thanks to all of the new members and guests that have attended our local meetings.  For the month of March Genesee had 40 attendees and Shiawassee had 18.   New member s are Leonard Walters and Angela Fry.  Guests included Lawrence M. , Chris  B., Staci Turchi, and Tamyra D. On to the Awareness news...

The Awareness Team is preparing for a busy riding season.  Mike and his team are busy scheduling awareness classes.  If you are interested in attending a class, see Mike.  He welcomes any volunteers.  There is no restriction on how many classes you can attend.  Plain and simple…the team just needs some help.  The team has taught over 270 students this year and it is only the beginning of March.  In April Region 20 will again host the Awareness Party and Awareness Run.  Please plan to attend both and support the region’s focus on putting Awareness first. Mike thanks everyone for all of their concerns and well wishes with his recent surgery.  We are happy to report that he is on the mend and has a clear bill of health.  On to the Legislative Officer report……………

Marty and Bus would like to remind everyone to call/email their legislatures.  The pizza and pop luncheon held in February was a huge success.    The legislative officers would like to invite you to the next meetings at Lansing:  May 18th and June 8th (Helmet Protest).  This is a great opportunity to meet and greet area legislatures in you districts.  This could be the year that our reality of Riding Free becomes a real.  All of your support is essential.  More news to follow in future months, as always check out the State Legislative Officer Jim Rhodes section in the front of this mag. Marty and Bus..Thank you for all of your hard work.

There has been a little change in our officer’s positions: Robin “Bubbles” Goyette is your region treasurer.  We are thankful to have her step up.  Aileen is your Events Coordinator for Region 20.  TC is you Chief Area Coordinator. Aileen, Robin and TC will do a great job.  Aileen is working hard on the Calendar of Events for 2011.  Please see our events on the back page of the rider under the events section.  You will also find a copy of our flyers for the Awareness Party, Awareness Run and Bikin for Burns. In February we began our Bikin for Burns committee meetings.  These meetings will be held at least monthly.  There is a change in our Bikin for Burns this year.  For the first time ever Bikin for Burns will not be on Mother’s Day weekend.  There was a mistake in scheduling with the Shriner’s Park.  Bikin for Burns 2011 will be held May 13th and 14th. However, we have been assured that in 2012 we will return to our scheduled Mother’s Day weekend.  Randy has signed a 5 year contract, so this problem will not occur for at least the next 5 years.. …On to the Care and Concerns Report….

Happy birthday and anniversary to all Region 20 members and friends.  All is well in Region 20.  Bless all of those that are having difficulties.  May you find strength in our prayers and thoughts.  On to the RC report…

Randy would like to recognize our members of the month Mark “Bus” Berger for Shiawassee and Robin “Bubbles” Goyette for Genesee.  Congratulations to you both. Awesome!!! As mentioned in our previous newsletter, Randy is the chairperson for the State Field Meet. There will be a few changes this year.  Abate will be having the field meet in Hell, Michigan.  Hell Creek Ranch is a beautiful place.  Changes are being made to make this event bigger and better than ever.  Don’t forget the beads. Check out Randy’s article in the front of this magazine for updated information regarding the 2011 state field meet.  Plans are in the works for a Bike Night at The Hickory Lounge in Corunna, Michigan.  Of course we will be there to support Terry (owner of Hickory).  Terry is a great individual who is always willing to help Region 20.  Returning the favor is what we do.  I will keep you posted as more information is available.

In closing don’t forget to buy your Awareness party tickets.  The price of the tickets will provide the monies to pay for our “Look Twice Save A Life” billboard on I-75.  We also have state raffle tickets and state field meet tickets available.  See Mac or Holly for your ticket needs.

Meeting Update information:  April’s Genesee and Shiawassee meetings will be combined.  Our monthly meeting will be in Genesee.   Hey Bruce owner of Kimberly’s Pub, we miss seeing you at our meeting.  Hope all is well.  Miss You!!!

Have you taken a moment to check out our Region 20 web page?  Stephen has done such a great job.  Check out the website for all of you Abate Region20 news.  Including officer contact information, legislative news, event’s and of course pictures, always entertaining.

Well   it’s time to close…As always, if you haven’t attended a meeting lately, please do...we host two meetings a month; one in Shiawassee the 1st Sunday of the month at the Hickory Lounge in Corunna and Genesee the 1st Monday of the month at Kimberly’s Pub.  If you can’t attend due to personal obligations, we understand...we know you are here in spirit….
