Hello Region 20 members, family and friends.
Special thanks to all of the new members and guests that
have attended our local meetings. For the month of April Genesee and Shiawassee
meetings were combined. Guest included” Walter Castro. On to the Awareness news...
As of the beginning of April the Awareness team has taught
nearly 400 students. It is amazing that the team only consists of 3 members: Mike “”Kritter” Poage, Eric Wallace and Jo “JoMamma”
Bruce. Newly announced instructor is Papa T.
Thank you Papa T for stepping up to the task. If you are interested in
being an instructor see Mike. Any help is appreciated. Region 20’s Awareness Team is actively preparing for our Annual Awareness Party and Ride this month. I will update you on all of the happenings in next month’s issue of the rider. When you are paying your dues for membership remember to “check” the box
indicating your financial support for the State Awareness Program. By doing so
you are allocating an extra $5.00 to help offset the program’s cost. This
is a great opportunity to help. On to the Legislative Report.
Our Legislative officers of Genesee and Shiawassee are
encouraging you to contact your local legislators. Contact information is available
on the state website. If you have any questions please call Marty for Genesee
and Bus for Shiawassee. Both of our Legislative officers continue to do a great
job updating us on the happenings in Lansing as we continue the fight to “Ride with a Choice” in 2011. A great opportunity to meet you area representatives is at the “Pizza and Pop” luncheon on
May 18th in Lansing. If you are interested and would like to carpool
to the event contact Marty or Bus. Groups will be leaving from both counties. Don’t forget to put June 8th (Helmet Protest) on your calendar. All Abate members are encouraged to attend our annual rally. Make yourself visible. Strength is in numbers. Check out the State Legislative Officer Jim Rhodes section
in the front of this mag for moreinformation. On to the Cares and Concerns Report….
Happy birthday and anniversary to all Region 20 members
and friends. Bless all of those that are having difficulties. May you find strength in our prayers and thoughts. On
to the RC report…
Members of the Month for April are (G) Terry “BooBoo”
Goyette and (S) Stephen Kuch. Both members are active participants in the growth
of Region 20. Boo Boo is your Sgt. of Arms for (G) and coordinator for the area
Swap Meets. Stephen is your webmaster. Many thanks for all that they do. Through their efforts we are stronger as a region.
Randy would like to thank everyone that have signed up to help at the Awareness Party through buying event tickets,
gathering door prizes and preparing food. Your help is essential in raising the
monies that are necessary to support the purchase of our “Look Twice Save a Life” billboard on I-75. If you didn’t attend April’s meeting you missed the news that Region 20 has purchased a new
grill to be used at region events. Huge cooking surface “nearly 65 hamburgers
can be cooked at any giving time”. This will decreased the wait time for
feeding our members at our annual events. Many thanks to Robin “Bubbles”
Goyette for locating the grill and following through with fundraisers that made it possible.
And many thanks to all of the individuals who purchased tickets for the raffles used to raise the necessary monies
and to Larry Hodges who replenished the gift basket that we raffled off for a second time.
As always Region 20 members come through and support the cause. We have
scheduled a pool tournament with the Iron Wheels in Shiawassee County. This is
a great time. The event will be held May 21st. If you are interested in attending the event call Randy or attend May’s meeting in either county. It is a great time for Region 20 to “CELEBRATE” our success at the 11th
Annual Bikin for Burns event held the prior weekend. Speaking of “Bikin
for Burns”, it is hard to believe that the 11th Annual Bikin for Burns is just around the corner. The past few months the B4B committee has been working hard to ensure a successful ride/party. DON’T
FORGET THIS YEAR BIKIN FOR BURNS DATE HAS BEEN MOVED TO MAY 14TH. This
is the WEEKEND AFTER MOTHER’S DAY. ONE WEEK LATER THAN OUR NORMALLY SCHEDULED
EVENT, this year only. Our 2012 Bikin for Burns event will be back on schedule
next year. The change in the date for 2011 was due to a scheduling conflict with
the Shriner’s Circus Park. As always the event is a great time. Please plan on attending. If you are able to help the day
of the event, give Randy a call or come to one of our local meetings in May. Sigh
up sheets are available. Region 20 and Terry “The Hickory Bar and Grill”
in Corunna, Michigan “location of our Shiawassee meeting” will be arranging a Bike Night. Please plan on supporting Terry as he has Region 20. More
information will be available soon. Randy would like to extend a special thanks
to all of the individuals that helped out at the Birch Run Swap meet in April. It
was a “huge” success.
Members attending April’s meeting announced the following
